Year One

Welcome to Year 1!

In Year 1, we build on the strong foundations laid in Reception, helping children transition smoothly into more structured learning while keeping play, exploration, and curiosity at the heart of our approach.

We follow the National Curriculum while continuing to embrace key principles from the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), particularly linking to the Birth to 5 Matters framework and Early Learning Goals. This ensures a developmentally appropriate approach that nurtures confidence, independence, and a love for learning.

What We Learn in Year 1

Young Authors – Children develop their storytelling skills, learning to express their ideas through drawing, mark-making, and writing. We encourage them to become confident communicators, using phonics to build sentences and bring their stories to life.

Creative Artists – Through painting, drawing, sculpting, and experimenting with different materials, children explore their creativity and develop fine motor skills. Inspired by famous artists and the world around them, they create their own masterpieces!

Mathematicians in the Making – We develop a deep understanding of numbers, patterns, and problem-solving through hands-on activities, helping children see the magic in maths.

Curious Explorers – Whether investigating the seasons in science, diving into exciting history topics, or discovering new places in geography, children learn about the world through questions, discussions, and real-life experiences.

Confident Communicators – Through drama, storytelling, and role-play, children develop their speaking and listening skills, learning to express themselves with confidence.

We believe that every child is unique and full of potential. In Year 1, we celebrate their creativity, imagination, and individuality, helping them grow into confident learners ready for the next step in their journey.
